Tiivistelmä

Sports is no different to any other field of life. Legal disputes exist in sports as well. Unfortunately, in sports especially, athletes and coaches often face difficulties regarding their access to justice. When conflicts arise in sport, turning to civil courts is not in most of the cases meaningful, as it would mean prohibitive costs and lengthy hearing times. Sport disputes often need to be resolved very quickly – maybe before the next competition. Often the direct monetary interest is not the main issue in the cases either. Many countries have produced a quick and low-cost legal process for sporting matters. In the rules of those systems, Mediation can be mentioned as one of the ways to solve disputes.

This article takes a peek into the Canadian sports mediation model also in comparison with the Finnish equivalent.
