Urheilu ja oikeus 2022 s. 38–50
This article is based on the presentation given by Pia Ek at the Nordic Sports Law Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark on 28 October 2022.
Sports have a significant impact on children’s growth and well-being. Since the 2010’s studies have shown that children and young people commonly experience bullying, molesting or other inappropriate behaviour in sports environments. Moreover, around half of the persons participating in sports organisations are minors. The importance of children’s rights is consequently emphasised in sports dispute resolution.
The purpose of this article is to outline the rights of children in national sports dispute resolution, bringing together the relevant legistion and legal practice. The article focuses on the case law of the Finnish Sports Arbitration Board as one of the main sports bodies.
