Tiivistelmä

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID or the Centre) was established fifty years ago by the then General Counsel of the World Bank to encourage private sector cross-border investment. The proliferation of bilateral and multilateral investment treaties has revolutionized the landscape of investment arbitration as these treaties have generated a rapidly increasing number of cases. Today ICSID is among the forefront of reputed arbitration institutions. This article examines the treaty arbitration before the establishment of ICSID and the conduct of an ICSID convention arbitration.
