Tiivistelmä

The article will concentrate on the right to receive information, which is a subset of Article 10 of the freedom of expression. This right was selected because it seems most relevant to the user within the context of copyright and because the author is aware of no articles in English which details its substance. The first step in discovering state obligations and trends of access emanating from the right to receive information is to analyze the case law, which is the aim of this article. Specifically, focus will be placed on the composition of the right, the scope of the test to justify an interference, principles that may affect the Court’s evaluation and any negative or positive obligations that may arise. After detailing the case law, efforts are made to identify state obligations and trends that could potentially affect copyright. The article concludes with a brief statement of the areas of copyright law in which these obligations and trends could be relevant.
