Tiivistelmä

The article elaborates on how Finland influenced the creation and development of the private law of Estonia. Although Scandinavian law was not used as a model when a legal system was chosen, Finland did play an important role. In the first half of the ‘90s when a very intense law creation period in Estonia had begun, The Department of Private Law of the University of Helsinki, the head of which was Thomas Wilhelmsson, became an important cooperating partner for the Institute of Private Law of the University of Tartu.
