Existence of implicit patent license in permissive open source licenses

This article identifies open source as a concept and tries to understand more of certain permissive open source licenses. It focuses on the situation if some patent license grant can be imposed implicitly from utilizing permissive open source licenses. The licenses that are especially focused at are the BSD license and the popular MIT license. There have not been many studies regarding this area as this subject seems to be complex. This article does not try to define whether the concept of implicit patent license actually is there, but rather, the aim is to provide understanding could the concept of implicit patent license be brought to the area of open source licensing as well.
